- Comments: The only segregation that exists today is the segregation that Blacks decide on. There are not any white clubs, white college funds or white anything else. Why? you ask, becuase that would be racist. But a black club, college fund restuant or anything else you put "black" in front of is just fine. If the ghettos of Detroit are considered segregation then quit buying Cadilacs and move!

- Comments: With the exception of an affluent few, Blacks always seem to suffer from segregation and intergration as well. I think the term "Forced segregation" is more appropriate. "Forced segregation" via economic limitation gives clearer focus to the issue and why Blacks suffer more.

- Comments: From my perspective it appears that if they are segregated it is because they want to be. I don't know of any blacks or other minorities being ostracized because of it. Because the media is constantly dwelling on the subject it will probably not go away. Remember that when you stir the ashes, you can rekindle the fire!

- Comments: I am a 20 year old WHITE female. I am inquiring on the possibility of obtaining a scholarship through the United Negro College Fund. As of this date, to my knowledge, a United White College Fund does not exist; perhaps because it would be labelled as a racist act. Why is this true?
Well, I am a true believer in equality and I am in need of some financial assistance to fund my college education. I feel discriminated against and I feel that it is time for the white race to regain their powers. It is time for us to get a little piece of the affirmitive action.

- Comments: It's taken some 200 years to learn to understand my race(Black). Before our can learn about another race we must learn about ourselves, and why we are
different. We must learn that all of our race is not equal, some study and learn, some complain and get nowhere.
We as race my learn that all blacks like
different things in life, we also, must learn how to be an individual, that will break the stereotype mode people have of our race. We also, must learn that the only way we will achieve anything in life is to work for it. We must learn to be American and take pride
in the great people of our race and the things they have accomplished. We also, must set good role models for our young
to follow and the old to be proud of.
Our entire attitude must change from a victim to a winner. I believe our race can and should make these changes, if, we want a life of peace.

- Comments: Yes, segregation hurts blacks. Everything from
education to community enrichment and resources.
I graduated from Detroit H.S. in 1975. Thank God
the Detroit school system has improved somewhat.
There would be quite a difference in Detroit
Public Schools if they resided in Birmingham,
Troy, or Livonia. Then again, when you really don't have committed representation from city council, who really cares ?

- Comments: Detroit is the most segregated city in America because of Coleman Young. His policies drove out most of the whites, and any blacks who could afford to leave. Those left behind are the poorest, trapped in a hellhole with minimal services, terrible schools, and a high crime rate. It is sad that his policies had an effect opposite to what he had intended, instead of freeing the black's, he enslaved them in the nightmare of Detroit that continues until this day.

- Comments: Segregation in itself is not a social problem. In fact it is quite natural for us to gather around others who are like us. Germans, Jews, Irish, Southern blacks moving to a new city? There are FAR more serious issues involved with racism (on both sides!!) than where someone lives. This is merely a very convienent excuse to point fingers. GET OVER IT!

- Comments: Segregation definitely hurts blacks because it creates ghettos. City services, schools and businesses that serve areas where the people are deemed "inferior" are always substandard. Poor blacks, of course, suffer the most because they cannot move and escape these problems.

- Comments: At one time, the answer would have been a resounding yes. But at the present time, black folks do not seem harmed by segregation. If anything, it has fostered a pride in ones own race. This has been especially important to African Americans and created a much better image for being black in America.

- Comments: There is serious amount of economic fallout that accompanies
segregation. Redlining, cultural and financial indifference follow when there is no overall sense of a common destiny and a lack of communication. People quickly split into the "us" and "them" camps. I believe that segregation has cost all of America a great deal of its potential over the past 300+ years. However, it has cost Blacks more than any other group.

- Comments: Black CULTURE hurts blacks. When blacks remove themselves from black American culture, they fit in better with the society and usually lead better and more productive lives. I recall a visit from President Mombuto and his defense minister, General Bomba to the United States. We were told they did not want any black American officers as escorts. I was assigned to escort General Bomba and during the three days we spent together, one day he asked me whty we put up with "them." I asked him who "them" were and he said American blacks--"who were a discredit to the black race." (There was much more to that discussion. He hated American blacks.) Why?
Basically,American blacks are disliked by just about every nation on earth. Why? (Who caused that?)In Italy they were banned until 1961 because of the crimminal actions of the "Buffalo Division" during the war. In Australia they were banned and then only allowed to visit Sidney after tremendous pressure was placed on the government by the USA. At best--American black GIs are tolerated overseas when they are mixed with large numbers of white GIs. Why?
Why?
I know why people of other races do not like to associate with Detroit blacks. Their reasons in the following order 1) Blacks bring crime with them; 2)Blacks lower educational standards in direct proportion to their numbers in a school district (The more blacks the lower the standards. 3) Black morals and ethics are lower than most other cultural groups.
If blacks got rid of their mis-matched African American culture and stopped forcing it down the throats of other cultures as something genuine and productive--they might fit in better with other races. (Blacks have just become the SECOND largest minority group in the USA--second to the Latinos.)
As for em--I have watched blacks destroy some of the most beautiful sub-divisions in Detroit and destroy one of the greatest public school systems and I find that extremely sad.
