  • Urban growth and the delivery of urban services --  Impact of growth on the quality and quantity of urban services, especially in light of the declining role of the state and work units as service providers.
  • Rural-urban relationships and integration --  Impact of urban growth on the countryside; the increased level of spatial interaction between urban and rural residents; and the suburbanization of the countryside surrounding and between existing cities.
  • Housing markets and housing reform -- Impact of urban growth and housing reform on the provision of housing, including the accommodation of new residents.
  • Changing lifestyles and behaviors of urban residents -- Examination of leisure and recreation activities accompanying the increase in spare time and associational life; and the market-driven expansion of cultural and social activities.
