Download "State of the Cities" and "New Americans" Data


From this page you can download the economic and immigration data that were used to prepare the "State of the Cities" and the "New Americans" web pages.

There are two things to keep in mind when using these data:

  • There are missing values in this file. A value of -999 indicates that the data for a given geographic area is not available. For example, if a metropolitan area is entirely suburban, all central city values for this area will be coded -999.

  • The files contain a single row of column headers followed by rows of data for each metropolitan area or state. The column headers are not very descriptive, so click here for a list of variable descriptions.


Download the 'Economic and Immigration Data' file
This file contains information for all metropolitan areas for both 1990 and 2000, including centrer cities and suburbs. To download the metro data set click here.
